Privacy policy

shouldenough is a reading site. There are no accounts and nothing to sign up for. One analytics tool runs on it, Microsoft Clarity, and this page describes what that collects along with the rest of the data that exists anyway. It is written to match what the code actually does.

What is stored in your browser

Your theme choice, under the key se-theme, in localStorage. It records whether you picked light, dark, or system. It is never sent to a server and it is not a cookie. Clearing site data removes it.

Clarity's cookies. _clck lasts about a year and identifies your browser, so repeat visits can be joined into one history. _clsk lasts a day and groups the pages of a single visit. Both are set on this domain.

Microsoft's own cookies. Starting Clarity fires two pixel requests, c.clarity.ms/c.gif and c.bing.com/c.gif, and those set cookies on clarity.ms and bing.com: MUID and CLID for about a year, then MR, SM, SRM_B and ANONCHK for shorter periods. MUID is Microsoft's identifier for a browser across its products, advertising included. Those cookies belong to Microsoft, not to us.

Beyond Clarity, the site sets no cookies of its own.

What reaches the server

Ordinary request logs. Serving a page means the host sees your IP address, user agent, and the URL you asked for. These are standard web-server records kept briefly for security and reliability, not used to build a profile of you, and not linked to anything else.

Course exercise answers. Interactive lessons grade your answers on the server, because the answer key deliberately never reaches the browser. What you type is sent, compared, and a result is returned. It is not written to any database and not retained after the response. There is currently no record of who attempted what.

Session recordings. Clarity uploads how you used a page to z.clarity.ms: which pages you opened, where you clicked, tapped and scrolled and when, your viewport size, device and browser, the page that referred you, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and the text and layout of the page as your browser rendered it, which is what allows a session to be replayed later. Clarity is set to mask what you type into form fields, so the commands you enter in a lesson exercise are not part of the recording. Nothing recorded is attached to a name, because there is nothing to sign in to.

What is not collected

No email address, because there is nothing to sign up for yet. No accounts. We run no advertising tags, sell nothing to anyone, and build no profile of you beyond the reports Clarity produces. No fingerprinting of our own.

Fonts are self-hosted and served from this domain, so loading a page does not tell a font provider that you visited.

Third parties

Cloudflare hosts the site and therefore processes the request logs described above on our behalf.

Microsoft runs Clarity, receives the recordings, and stores them. What Microsoft does with data it collects is covered by its privacy statement.

Google Tag Manager is wired into the site but carries no container id, so nothing from Google loads today. Tag Manager's job is to fetch other tags, and each tag it fetches can set cookies of its own. Before a container is switched on, this page will name what it loads.

That is the complete list today.

If you would rather not be recorded

There is no cookie banner. To opt out, block third-party cookies, block clarity.ms in a content blocker, or read with JavaScript disabled. The site is built to work without JavaScript, and with it off nothing is recorded.

When this changes

Some planned features will collect more: a newsletter would need your email address, saved course progress would need an account, and advertising would introduce a third party with its own cookies. Switching on a Tag Manager container counts too. None of that is live. This page will be updated before any of it ships, and the date at the top will change.
